Bojack is motivated to be remembered as an actor and play his dream role of Secretariat. Based on the cognitive theory he is motivated through extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Bojack’s extrinsic factors are his parents, Princess Carolyn, and the rest of his haters. Bojack’s parents not only shot down his dreams of being an actor but also his love for role model Secretariat. Although Princess Carolyn is Bojack’s agent she has no confidence in her client. She thinks Horsing Around was a bad show and sees her client as a washed up wanna be. These factors motivate Bojack to get the part of Secretariat to prove them wrong. This is not Bojack’s only motivation; he is also motivated by different intrinsic factors. Bojack realizes he is not a good person and often makes decisions that hurt those around him. He thinks if he can get this role as Secretariat he can turn his life around. He will reinvent himself and become a better person. Another intrinsic motivation is the fact that Secretariat was Bojack's hero growing up and has always wanted to play him. These motivators help him achieve his goal of playing his dream role of Secretariat.
